Experience the beauty and power of Congolese dance! LaVelle will be dancing with her students from Parkpoint Healdsburg and Coaches Corner, Sebastopol (Wednesdays 5pm). LaVelle says the dances tell stories of everyday life expressions with special emphasis on the center of the body, using the Congolese Circle (Circle of Life) as the foundation. Her goal for her classes is to teach her culture through dance and community. LaVelle says, “We are all connected. We are all together in bongi (community). We are all a village of people. My dances bring joy and pleasure to everyone. African dance is spiritual. It is the spirit of the drums that calls our ancestors.” LaVelle has been dancing professionally for thirty-five years. She was a member of her late Uncle Ta Malonga’s dance company, Fua Dia Congo (Ancestral heritage) and Diata Diata(marching forward), as well as her Uncle Ta Sandor’s company Sissa Congo (Cultural Heritage), and her company with her cousin, Lorraine, Ijo_Ayo (dance of joy). |

Trinity is a earth/land steward of Solidarity Yaad Jamaica who supports with alter activation, breath, mind, body connection, and drumming activations …. They have been with Solidarity Yaad since its inception and continue to be an asset to the growing team. Trinity has worked in the field of trauma for well over 25 years supporting the development of healthy relationships in young boys and men at Greenacre Homes & School located in Sebastopol, Ca. In 2015 Trinity began studying drum medicine with Afia Walking Tree and continues to develop this medicine as a means of supporting and healing our communities. In 2020 they became a certified Kundalini Yoga Teacher studying under Krishna Kaur and in 2021 became certified to teach youth through Krishna Kaur’s Yoga for Youth program. Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga we work with the natural connection to the breath and life force energy inviting the mind to relax and be receptive thus allowing the movement of our bodies to remember and release. With the drum we connect with the rhythm, sound, and healing flow allowing it to move us, guide us and dance us free.
